Summer at SMT

This past summer I worked at Sportsmedia Technology as a design intern. While I was there I worked on projects for Showtime Strikeforce, MLB Network, Time Warner Cable Sportsnet and internal projects for SMT. I learned so much when I was there and I enjoyed every minute!

Showtime Strikeforce

I was asked to design color chips and the section for standing time for the Strikeforce ticker. I made multiple variations for the client to pick.
In the end the client chose the design in the bottom right.

Unfortunately none of the fights from that event needed the standing time stat. Here are some the standing time designs. The client chose the design on the larger image.

NFL Pre-Season- Commercial

A design board for a promo for the NFL pre-season. I wanted to capture the building tension and periods of anticipation of the game in this piece.

Jungian Shadow-Illustrative

"Everything that man should, and yet cannot, be or do- be it in a positive or negative sense - lives on as a mythological figure and anticipation alongside his consciousness, either as a religious projection or-what is still more dangerous-as unconscious contents which then project themselves spontaneously into incongruous objects, e.g., hygienic and other "salvationist" doctrines or practices. All these are so many rationalized substitutes for mythology, and their unnaturalness does more harm than good."--"The Psychology of the Child Archetype" (1940). In CW 9, Part I: The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious. P.287

The Cake is NOT a Lie-Infographic

This is an infographic I made for my Design for Motion class. The theme for this assignment was alchemy. I came up with the concept of mixing ingredients for drinks and then discovered that there were cocktails based off the game Portal.

Fangtasia Promo

This project had the concept of love. I chose to explore the more lustful side of love. I had been watching a True Blood marathon and was inspired to create a promo for the vampire bar from the show, Fangtasia. I imagine this piece being a stop motion and the type embroiding itself into the black pleather and red satin. At the moment I only have "Fangtasia" embroided but I definitely plan on going back to do the rest.

Sniper Infographic

For this project I had to use a Naive/Modernist style. I was given the concept of hunter/gatherer. I thought of the most dangerous game--humans, and who hunts humans. My brainstorming lead me to snipers. So my thought for this board is an infographic explaining what snipers do and what it all entails. I imagine the piece to be quite long so these frames depict the beginning of the piece.

"Always Be Knolling" Board

This was for my Design for Motion class. We had to create a self portrait using the concept/method of knolling. Knolling is the process of arranging like objects in parallel or 90 degree angles as a method of organization (wikipedia :) ).I thought of how I would actually draw a self portrait. I would probably look in a mirror. Well what if the mirror was cracked/shattered. My image would be refracted differently in each shard of the mirror. I thought of art that already uses this process and Cubism came to mind. So I took the refraction idea and ran with it. I shot items that I owned that represented different hobbies and likes of mine. I edited the photos and sliced them up. I may have had too much fun.

Tattoo Tea Party

These are style frames for a promo animation for the Tattoo Tea Party. It is a tattoo convention held in Manchester, England. My concept is tattoos are to the human body as paint is to a canvas. The human body will be treated like a canvas and will be covered in paint. Font choices are not final, they are to be determined. I wanted a contemporary, rocker edge visually. As you can see, this will be a live action piece with a lot of post production work.

Intel

The first stage of this assignment was to create two style frames each being from a different movement for Intel.

Bauhaus
Since I've learned of Bauhaus, I have always enjoyed that style. I thought I would accept the challenge and create an abstract ad for Intel.

Pop Art
I was influenced by a piece done by Edward Ruscha, "Standard Station, 10c Western Being Torn in Half". I was attracted to his style because it wasn't the typical Andy Warhol pop art.

The second stage was to combine the two previous styles into one for another Intel ad.

I kept the idea of a limited color scheme and the chips from the pop art ad and the shapes and texture from Bauhaus to create a new style.

Bauhaus

Created a frame based off of one of the graphic design movements for a motion media ad. I chose Bauhaus.

Primitive

Created these frames based off the keyword "primitive". It was open to interpretation, and I thought, "what's more primitive than dinosaurs?"

Historic Figure

Style frames for a promo for a historic figure.
