Playground Interpretation

This was my first time ever shooting my own footage, how exciting! This was a group project so my partner and I took turns filming. We had to film with the theme of natural light. We chose to shoot at a playground and focus on the abstract shapes and shadows of the playground equipment. After we finished filming we split up to do our own editing. I chose to stick to an abstract theme to go along with the music I chose. I wanted the footage to react to the music so when there was a glitchy noise in the music the footage would reflect that. I thought cutting up some of the frames would create a more interesting element to some of the stationary footage.

Headphones Model

The assignment here was to model an object three different times in three different ways: organic, industrial and futuristic. All of the 3D work was done in Cinema 4D.

Winter-Four Seasons

This was part of a group project. Each of us had to interpret one of the four seasons. I chose winter. I was inspired by (obviously) the cold weather, the warmth of a home and painted winter scenes. My piece is the first 30 seconds.

"Going Nowhere"

Just putting it out there, I love Tim Burton. I was heavily inspired by his sketches and concept art for this animation, along with Edward Gorey. The idea for this project was to create a stylistic world for a realistic object. The object had to interact with this world and go on a journey (big or small). I chose an older wheelchair for the realistic object. I wanted to depict a small, isolated world. My idea was to make the world look as if a graphic print came to life in a 3D world. I wanted a fairly dark environment to give off a gloomy atmosphere. All of it was modeled in Cinema 4D.

Savannah Film Festival Bumper

I created this animation for the Savannah Film Festival bumper contest. The contest called for:
Theme: Celebration of the art of cinema; the ideas of conversation, discourse
and sharing
Tone: Youthful, vivacious and colorful
I chose to go with a sharing conversation concept. I thought of how news gets around whether it be from a newspaper, email or simply one friend saying to another. I created a colorful environment with characters viewers could relate to.

Work from my sophomore year:

Pan's Labyrinth titles

The idea was to combine a product with an artistic movement. I am a huge fan of Pan's Labyrinth and decided to do an opening title sequence in the style of art nouveau. I felt the art nouveau would add to the fantastical elements and overall style of the movie. I created vector graphics of iconic characters and objects similar to the style of art nouveau prints.

Oogie Boogie Typography

This is pretty self explanatory, kinetic typography matched up with audio. Oogie Boogie is one of my favorite character's from Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas. Since he is the Boogie Man I thought it would be appropriate to have the text emerge from a closet in a bedroom environment. Oogie Boogie's scene in the movie is very colorful and energetic so I incorporated those elements into my piece.

Intel

The first stage of this assignment was to create two style frames each being from a different movement for Intel.

Bauhaus
Since I've learned of Bauhaus, I have always enjoyed that style. I thought I would accept the challenge and create an abstract ad for Intel.

Pop Art
I was influenced by a piece done by Edward Ruscha, "Standard Station, 10c Western Being Torn in Half". I was attracted to his style because it wasn't the typical Andy Warhol pop art.

The second stage was to combine the two previous styles into one for another Intel ad.

I kept the idea of a limited color scheme and the chips from the pop art ad and the shapes and texture from Bauhaus to create a new style.

Bauhaus

Created a frame based off of one of the graphic design movements for a motion media ad. I chose Bauhaus.

Primitive

Created these frames based off the keyword "primitive". It was open to interpretation, and I thought, "what's more primitive than dinosaurs?"

Historic Figure

Style frames for a promo for a historic figure.

About Me

Hello there!
I am Lauren Peterson. I hail from the small town of Pembroke, Massachusetts.
I am currently a senior at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) working on my BFA for motion media design. This field has always fascinated me since high school. Motion media is constantly evolving, always finding new ways to communicate. There is always a puzzle to solve and a challenge to overcome in designing for motion and that is what I love about it.

I am a huge New England sports fan (mostly the Patriots and Red Sox). There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting with my family on sundays yelling at the TV. I have a huge passion for sewing (and addiction for fabric). The last thing you need know is I have a very unhealthy obsession with the color blue. It's such a fantastic color, don't you think?
